Hi, I'm Katherine! I am a flutist, pianist, Army veteran, clinician, writer, and arts leader living in the greater St. Louis area. When I'm not playing & teaching music, I can be found backpacking the great outdoors or inventing new treats to bake. I'm a travel enthusiast, cat mom, and can't say no to a good book. I let my brilliant husband handle the electronics, who is basically a computer wizard. With my flute, keyboard, family, friends, and tablet, I enjoy my rich life as a performer, teacher, speaker, writer, baker, wife, entrepreneur, and volunteer.
Katherine is an active performer and clinician throughout the United States. She is principal flutist for the Heartland Opera Company and has served as a substitute flutist for the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra, Anchorage Opera, Chandler Symphony, Scottsdale Symphony, and the Ozark Festival Orchestra. In 2010, she toured Europe as principle flute with the Blue Lake Fine Arts wind ensemble. Katherine has presented arts advocacy lectures and masterclasses at conferences, universities and public schools across the US in Missouri, Kansas, Arizona, Virginia, California, and Alaska, sharing her experiences as a performer-administrator and the importance of both in today’s world.
Most recently, she partnered with the Alaska Native Heritage Center to conduct research into the history of Native Alaskan flute music and its impact on culture and modern Alaskan life. Her research has earned her an invitation to present at the 2019 Mid-Atlantic Flute Fair in Reston, VA.
Katherine is the Membership Director for the Arizona Flute Society and is an active writer for the Flute Examiner, an online flute newsletter dedicated to the education and enrichment of flutists at all levels.
Her work with the Creative Forces music & arts therapy program for active duty military and veterans has established national partnerships with military music organizations and therapists to provide integrated and veteran-led 1-on-1 components to PTSD and TBI healing for our nation's veterans.
Locally, Katherine enjoys an active private flute studio and volunteers with the arts non-profits Creative Forces and the Anchorage Concert Association. She is a member of NFA, Arizona Flute Society, the Flute Society of Washington, MTNA, and SAI music service fraternity.
Katherine is a retired flutist in the United States Army, where she served as piccolo and associate principal flutist and the resident flutist for the Wind Quintet.
Katherine holds degrees from Arkansas Tech University and Colorado State University.
